What is Preposition?

Prepositions are small words that connect elements in a sentence. They are essential because they provide additional details about the sentence. These are used to express that something belongs to a person, animal, or thing. 

Prepositions of Possession

The Possessive form is employed in an exceedingly sentence within the context of things that belong to someone or an animal. We are able to also use it to point out a connection between things. A number of the foremost commonly used prepositions of Possession are of, with and to. Few examples are:

• This is the gang of Mormons.

• She’s the girl with golden hair.

• This book is a property of the As You Like It.

• The shop on the mountain belongs to my family.

• He’s the one with the french beard. 

The Preposition Form Words and Their Usage

Of: This preposition of possession is typically used for cities, countries, people, and possessive pronouns. Of is placed in an exceeding sentence to point out possession of an area sort of a city, country or people or possessive pronouns like mine, yours, etc. 

Usual Form: Of + noun/possessive pronoun(mine, yours, his, hers)

The preposition of explains to whom the person or an object belongs to. Few examples are:

• New Delhi is the capital of  India.

• This is the shop of my brother.

• She is a classmate of ours.

• The Taj Mahal is the finest monument of India.

• A friend of mine had a bike accident a few days back. 

With: With is employed with animals/materials/accents/objects and physical characteristics.

Usual Form: With + adjective/noun

To: A preposition that shows possession, this is often usually employed in the expression “belong to“.

There is no denying that knowledge is the greatest asset known to man. It is perhaps one of the fundamental elements to assess where he is at the moment. Throughout history, humanity has evolved, implementing the knowledge gained over the years. Initially, human beings were on par with other animals, when they started thinking about their surroundings, questioning everything, finding the answers to the unknown, getting a rational opinion and started thinking, they got differentiated from the rest. Hence, rational thought and the ability to think is what makes human beings stand out from the rest. From then, we never stopped our quest to answer the unknown things. 

However, little knowledge has proved to be dangerous for the entire humanity. Anyone with little knowledge poses a threat to the whole society as they believe that they know everything. But in reality, all we know is a minute part of the entire world.  Through this essay on a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, one can tread safely on the right path and not be tempted to walk in the wrong direction. 

 

A Long Essay 

One needs food to survive. Likewise, a man needs the right food for his brain to choose the right path with insightful thoughts. A man’s brain can not stay idle and also an empty brain is said to be the devil’s workshop. The thought of questioning and the quest for answers is what triggers new developments and inventions. It encourages us to expand our horizons.  A wise man is like a calm stream of water flowing to its destination peacefully. 

One can see what is beneath the water. It is like an open book that anybody can enter and gain knowledge and understanding. Wise people strife for the benefit of humanity and infuse positivity into society. We can observe this quality from great leaders, thinkers and philosophers like Buddha, Aristotle, Plato etc. Though they knew more than an average person, they never claimed that they knew everything. They were always excited about expanding their knowledge and were open to change.

He is not like a teacher with mediocre knowledge on a particular subject and learns to thrive on his understanding. It is a result of producing students who are ill-informed about the subject. 

The same can be said about an industrialist, who does not have proper knowledge of running a business. This will result in the business garnering colossal losses. A little knowledge is dangerous for an electrician who does not know how to differentiate between AC/DC connections. 

He is most likely to cause a massive accident and loss of life.  A doctor who does not have complete knowledge about a surgery or medical procedure might end up putting many lives in danger. A chef who does not know the entire process to cook a dish spoils the taste of it and brings a bad reputation to the restaurant. Even the common people, who do not know complete knowledge about their work, end up losing their job. When you decide your life, any choice without proper knowledge will only put you downhill. It is completely okay to make mistakes but, these mistakes should not be resulted from not having proper knowledge about the decision you make.

The real issue is not with the educational system, but with the individual’s learning abilities and skills. A person with little knowledge tends to consider himself supreme to the one who knows more. He thinks that he knows everything and stops trying to be inquisitive. This will not only stop his mental growth but also leave him behind if he does not know what is happening around him. 

They think that they are better or wiser than others. These men promulgate their little knowledge and trumpet their beliefs to others based on their little learning of the subject. 

The paragraph on a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, helps one realize how in a world that is technology-driven, having little knowledge may not come in handy. One must have the zeal to keep updating themselves to be heard. 

The knowledge man wants to possess must take him on the right path. Because a person with little or less knowledge is like a frog in the well, ready to be devoured by its prey. One must take efforts to wake up and be accountable for the words spoken by them as they are accountable for them. 

For example, like drugs, it can save lives, but at the same, destroy lives when people become addicted to them. That is because little knowledge of medication is harmful. One must understand the side effects of the medications before consuming them. 

People who have little knowledge about a particular thing tend to act proud and knowledgeable, while not letting the wise open his mouth. This is a dangerous trend because the listeners are filled with the wrong facts and make a major blunder when they delve into it. 

Besides, when a fool talks, the prudent man prefers to stay quiet. These people do not realize that they are hiding behind a dark curtain, depriving them of learning facts. In reality, they lay confirmed to the darkness that so effortlessly bounds them for the rest of their lives. 

 

A Short Essay 

As comforting as it is to hear, thinking that one knows everything is the same as living in a fool’s paradise. Being satisfied with the knowledge attained is nothing but sheer arrogance. It then leads to unwanted paths and eventually opens a Pandora’s Box. 

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing; one learns that fools do not fear treading where knowledgeable don’t want to walk upon. The pride of a man leads to his destruction. Sadly, he will not be the lone casualty. Instead, take with him countless innocent souls into the path of darkness. 

That is because words when spoken without based on facts or true knowledge can cause greater harm than good. They tend to create unwanted problems and controversies. So, one should stay away from such issues, by gaining true knowledge on the surrounding happenings. 

A sensible man knows how to complete the task on time. When we fail to realize, we fail for sure. 

 

Conclusion 

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Essay in English aims to enunciate the fact that little or more knowledge can be a dangerous path to tread on. So, one must see the truth and walk in the direction of that the truth shows you to and learn a thing to its fullest.

Voice, mood, tense, person, and number are the five qualities of verbs in English grammar; we’re only concerned with voice here. The active and passive voices are the two grammatical voices. Voice refers to the form of a verb that indicates when a subject acts or is the receiver of the action. When the subject performs the action it is active voice and when the subject receives the action it is passive voice. 

 

Examples of Active and Passive Voice

Active– He loves me. 

Passive- I am loved by him. 

The subject of the active voice example above is “he,” the verb is “loves,” and the object is “me.” The subject of the passive voice phrase is “I,” the verb is “am loved,” and the object is “him.” 

The active sentence’s subject becomes the passive sentence’s object. The components of both statements are the same, but the structure differs. Passive sentences describe what happens to the person or object that performs an action, whereas active sentences describe what happens to the person who does the activity. 

The active voice has a stronger, clearer tone than the passive voice, which is more subtle and weak. So, while passive voice sounds more elegant, it is better to use active voice if you want to get your point across effectively.

There are times when passive voice is useful and called for. For example, “The squirrel was chased by the dog”. The sentence construction would be helpful if the squirrel were the focus of our writing and not the dog.

You’ve probably noticed that when we transform from active to passive voice, the verb form changes. There are two types of verbs employed now: The main and auxiliary verbs. An auxiliary verb is usually used in conjunction with the main verb. The auxiliary verb, such as “be, do, or have”, expresses the verb’s tense or mood. 

One thing to note here is that the exact meaning of the sentence does not change even if the structure differs. 

 

Here are Certain Rules for Active and Passive Voice 

• The subject of the verb in the active voice(they) becomes the object in the Passive voice sentences.  

• It is a thumb rule that passive voice phrases, as a rule, always use the third form of the verb, also known as the past participle form of the verb (example- eat, ate, eaten- eaten is the third form of a verb).   

• Auxiliary verb ‘be’ (am, is are, was, were) is added before the past participle according to the tense of the verb. 

• Generally ‘by’ is used before the object of the passive voice sentences. 

• If the notion you’re attempting to express is obvious, you may sometimes drop the subject entirely from the passive voice. You just have to make a judgement call for that. For example:  

Active- weight is measured in kilograms.  

Passive voice: Kilograms is a measurement unit for weight.  

• The certain verb takes fixed prepositions after them that replaces ‘by’. Some of these verbs are- known to, surprised by/at, vexed by, amazed by, contained in, annoyed with/at, tired of, filled with, decorated with, engulfed in. For example  

Active- The fire engulfed the building.  

Passive- The building was engulfed in the fire. 

To differentiate between active and passive voice, simply ask the following three questions: 

1. What/who is the subject of the statement? 

2. What is the action/verb in the sentence? 

3. Is the subject of the sentence performing the action/verb? 

If the answer to the last question comes out to be ‘yes’, then the sentence is in active voice, and if the answer is ‘no’, then the passive voice is used. 

Changes in the auxiliary word’s tense: When the main verb’s verb form changes, the auxiliary word’s tense changes as well. Let’s look at a few examples to understand them more clearly: 

 

Voice and Tenses 

Present Tense- Use the simple present tense to make a generalisation, present a state of being, or indicate a habitual or repeated action. 

Active- I write a novel. 

Passive-  A novel is written by me. 

Structure- Subject + auxiliary verb + past participle of the main verb+ by + object. 

Present Continuous- Use the present progressive to describe an ongoing activity or a temporary action. 

Active- I am eating breakfast. 

Passive- The breakfast is being eaten by me. 

Structure-  Subject + auxiliary verb + being + by + object 

Present Perfect- Use the present perfect to describe an action occurring in the past but relevant to the present or extending to the present.   

Active- I have played the game. 

Passive- A game has been played by me. 

Structure- Subject + has/have been + past participle + by + object 

Past Tense- Use the simple past to indicate a general or habitual action occurring in the past or at a specific time in the past. 

Active- I invited you to the party. 

Passive- You were invited by me to the party. 

Structure- Subject+be+ past participle+by+ object 

Questions  

Active- Did you show me the dress? 

Passive- Was I shown the dress by you? 

Past Continuous- Use the past progressive to indicate an ongoing action in the past or an action continuing through a specific past time.   

Active- I was playing video games. 

Passive- The video games were being played by me. 

Structure-  Subject+auxiliary verb + being+ past participle + by +object 

Past Perfect- Use the past perfect to indicate an action completed before a particular time or before another action in the past. 

Active- You had done the work. 

Passive- The work had been done by you. 

Structure- Subject+had+been+past participle + by + object 

Future Tense- Use the future to indicate an action that is expected to take place at a future time. 

Active- He will play the match. 

Passive- The match will be played  

Structure- Subject+will+be+past participle +by+object 

Future perfect tense  

Active- you will have started the job.  

Passive- The job will have been started by you.  

Structure- subject shall/will have been past participle by subject.  

Note that Future continuous and perfect continuous tenses do not form passive voice. 

The more you practice the more you will understand the idea of changing active to passive and passive to active voice.

Aryabhatta was the first mathematician and astronomer of India. He had acquired vast knowledge in the field of mathematics. He also discovered several things for which Indians feel proud of even now. His renowned discoveries were algebraic identities, trigonometric functions, the value of pi, and the place value system, etc. Aryabhatta wrote many famous books which are treated as Bible in Mathematics. Many youngsters were inspired by Aryabhatta in the field of mathematics. His contribution to society is highly acclaimed to date.

Early Life 

Aryabhatta was born in 475 A.D. in an unknown place. But according to his book ‘Aryabhatiya’, he lived in Kusumpura, the modern-day Patna. The archaeologists hold this belief till today that he continued his studies in Kusumpura. The reason behind the beliefs is his significant works of astronomy were found in Kusumpura.

Therefore, it can be believed that Aryabhatta spent most of his life in this place. Besides this, it is believed by some historians that he was the head of the Nalanda University in Kusumpura. All of the aforementioned theories are based on guesses and hypotheses because no proper evidence is there except the books written by Aryabhatta. Some of the records were lost and are not found until now. 

Contributions of Aryabhatta 

The major contribution of Aryabhatta was in the field of mathematics. Various trigonometric functions were discovered by him which are very much relevant in modern-day mathematics. Aryabhatta’s invention regarding the value of ‘pi’ eradicates the complications in mathematics. But, his invention of place value and zero is the masterstroke in the domain of mathematics. There are many astronomical theories written in the book ‘Aryabhatiya’. 

Aryabhatta was not only efficient in Mathematics but he also had immense knowledge of astronomy. According to his heliocentric theory, planets revolve around the sun. He calculated the speed of the various planets concerning the Sun with the help of his theory. The sidereal rotation was also calculated by him. One of his major discoveries in the field of astronomy was the sidereal year which states that it should be 365 days, 6 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds in a year. This deviates from the present-day value by only 3 minutes and 20 seconds. 

It was Aryabhatta who correctly discovered the fact that the earth rotates on its axis. He also anticipated the geocentric model of the solar system which said the earth to be the centre of the universe. The sun, the moon, and the planets rotate around it. Solar and lunar eclipses were also described in his book. The fact that solar eclipse and lunar eclipse take place due to the shadow-casting of the earth and the moon was explained in his book.  

It can be said that the approximations made by Aryabhatta in the field of astronomy were very much accurate. The core of the computational paradigm is generated by the theories of Aryabhatta. As Indian citizens, we should feel proud of Aryabhatta because he had invented such things which can’t be imagined in the present day without the facilities of modern equipment. 

The Legacy of Aryabhatta

Aryabhatta left a legacy of wisdom not only in Indian culture but also in the neighbouring cultures. His astronomical observations were very believed and translated into various languages of the neighbouring countries. The modern world discoveries proved that he was right about the position of the sun being in the centre of the solar system and his theory on all the planets revolving around the centre. Aryabhatta also gave a brief introduction to why and how a lunar eclipse takes place. His legacy of knowledge is very well praised in the modern world for all the contributions he made in cosmology. 

Conclusion

Aryabhatta is very well known as the father of Indian Mathematics. He made various mathematical discoveries. The most well-known is the value of pi. Aryabhatta is the one who gave all the digits of the value of pi. These discoveries may seem minor but they did change the course of the development of concepts of a complex subject like mathematics.

It could talk about the camel’s body structure, especially about the humped back and hooves that make it easy for them to walk in the sand without sinking their feet. The food and the diet of the camel can also be discussed in the following paragraph with information on how it stores food and water to survive in the desert.

When you answer the aspect about where camels reside, rather than simply putting it in one line that it is found in the deserts, one can also say why the desert is a suitable environment for the camel. You can also showcase your general knowledge about the deserts in the world where camels are found in large numbers.

You can write about how travelers have used camels to cross deserts since ancient times as they can walk in the sand and easily carry an immense load. Christmas Speech is usually given on Christmas day which is on 25th December every year. Kids look forward to this festival. Schools shut the classroom for this and also celebrate this day. Many events are conducted. Kids are encouraged to give the Best Christmas Speech Ever. It is a Christian holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. But everyone celebrates this annual holiday that marks the goodness and togetherness of people.

Long Christmas Speech

This is useful as a Christmas Speech For Students in grades 8-12 where they organize the events for the day and share the importance of the merry occasion. 

Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating and a very warm welcome to our respected Principal, Teachers,  and my dear friends. I am honoured to be presenting the Speech Of Merry Christmas. Christmas is my favourite festival and I look forward to this all year long. It is celebrated during winters on 25th December every year.

This day is very special because it marks the beginning of an era when Jesus was born. Mother Mary was blessed with a baby, they named Jesus. He grew up and did a lot for the people around him and was regarded as a God.  

On the eve of Christmas that is on 24th December which is also called Christmas Eve the people celebrating offer service at midnight. For the midnight mass service, the Catholics gather to prepare many delicacies for the people and families who may not afford to celebrate. They can come and enjoy the feast. 

This is a cultural and religious festival for Christians. And the spirit of this day is so universal that everyone joins in on the celebration. 25th December also evokes joy, hope and togetherness. Families and friends get together to celebrate and exchange gifts and cards. In many circles, people celebrate by giving gifts as secret Santa where the recipient must guess who the secret Santa is.

Customized cards for friends and family members are also handmade to make it more special. People greet each other by wishing Merry Christmas. 

The tradition also involves cake cutting and decorating the Christmas tree with fairy lights, electric bulbs and many Christmas decorations. When families host this celebration they prepare many delicacies and enjoy a heavy meal as I am sure you all will tonight. 

The celebration also highlights the importance of hope in our lives. And this is symbolized by Santa Claus where children believe and pray for their wishes to come true. And Santa who is an old man that loves children comes carrying those gifts for the children. Children believe their wishes to be fulfilled and are very enthusiastic about the year ahead.

The traditions in ways to celebrate this day vary from family to family. Some old traditions are carried forward while others try to renew it going ahead. The commonality in these traditions though is that celebration is empty without singing carols. Christmas carols are sung by kids and adults to welcome this day. Today we also have students who are going to sing carols for us, so get ready to sing along. And Santa might be visiting later with tons of surprises.

The celebration continues to hold the high spirits this day brings for 12 days after December 25th, this is called Christmastide. This day also marks the celebration of the triumph of the good in all of us. It truly encourages us to be kind and compassionate to everybody. Merry Christmas to everyone and now let’s begin the celebrations.

This is a Christmas Speech For Kids in grades 4-7, where they can keep it simple and short.

A very special and warm welcome on these cold days of winters. Respected Principal, teachers and my dear friends wish you all a Merry Christmas. This is a very special day to all the Catholic Christians who celebrate this day. As this day that is celebrated every year on 25th December, every year marks the birth of their almighty or God Jesus Christ. 

Even though it is a Christian festival that is celebrated only once every year which is a religious and a cultural one, many people connect with the spirit of this day. So it is celebrated everywhere around the world and in India, schools give this day off for students and celebrations are held on the premises.

On this day, a Christmas tree is brought home. The family members decorate with the Christmas decorations, along with fairy lights and electric bulbs and a bright star on top. There is an exchange of Christmas gifts and cards. Children look forward to welcoming Santa Claus to their home with candies and the gifts they wished for. Some families host a huge celebration and they put a feast of delicacies and drinks for everyone to enjoy. Children also attempt at baking cookies.
