THE TAJ MAHAL
The Taj Mahal is one of the famous seven wonders in the world. Taj attracts many people bf the world. It is situated in Agra near Yamuna River. There are many other monuments in and around Agra, but Taj is the most famous. It looks wonderfully beautiful. It looks different at different times. In moon-light, it is at its best. In the morning, it is different in its glory and majesty. One visit is not sufficient to appreciate Taj.
Many visitors come to see the Taj everyday from India and abroad. No other monument is so fascinating and attractive Taj is. They look at its beauty, grandeur and majesty with a bated breath. Poets and writers have written in its praise and admiration. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan got it built in memory of his queen, Mumtaj Mahal. After her death during a child birth, she was laid to rest here. It stands on a high and huge platform made of red sand stone. The Taj is built with white marble; it took about 17 years to complete it.
The fountains and water channels in front of the Taj add to its beauty. Its reflection in the water channel is fantastic. There are four tall towers or minarets round the Taj. All around, there are lush-green lawns and flower beds. It looks like a fairy land. Under the tomb lie the bodies of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal.
Every tourist from the foreign land thinks that his visit to India is incomplete without visiting the Taj. I like the Taj very much.
