Jerome, being the narrator, is explaining what is happening there as he is pretty confident about his Packing skills. But in reality, he just wants to sit and supervise others doing the Packing. Well, that clearly does not happen as he starts boasting about teaching them how to pack efficiently, so Harris and George decide to watch him and not interrupt him in the process while they sit and watch him. Jerome is not impressed but he doesn’t complain either and continues to pack diligently.

When Jerome was done with the Packing, Harris reminded him about his shoes that he forgot to pack so now poor Jerome had to reopen the bag again and readjust everything to make space for the shoes. While he was Packing the shoes he realized that he might have forgotten to pack his own toothbrush.
